In The Cards playing card box paper craft

Personalize a playing card box and photo card as a romantic way to communicate that your love was always "in the cards." A standard deck of 52 cards fits inside the box.

Replace one of the cards in a full deck with a unique photo playing card and have your loved one search for your hidden message; or just use the custom box to present a single personalized playing card. The playing card has a heart shaped photo on the front and a note on the back.

Some sample messages include:

  • It was in the cards for us to be together.

  • You will always be my Queen.

  • You will always be my King.

  • We are 2 of the same heart.

You can also choose from an Ace, Queen, King, or 2 of hearts that coincide with the message you are writing.

Fill in the PDF text form fields in the template below to personalize the name and message on the front as well as an optional message on back of the playing card box.

Use the paper clip to score the fold lines on the back. The fold line guides are the blue dashed lines.

Line up the paper clip on the fold line guide, then place the ruler next to it to keep straight. Push down and slide clip along guide lines. Repeat for each fold line.

Treasure Chest Paper Craft Step 3

4

Once all fold lines are scored, use the craft knife to cut out each piece. When cutting, keep the cut path on the line so that you do not see white around the edges. A ruler can be used for long straight lines.

You can also use scissors.

Treasure Chest Paper Craft Step 4

5

Cut the thin black line as shown. This will help keep the flap secure when closed.

Treasure Chest Paper Craft Step 5

6

The final cutout is as shown.

Treasure Chest Paper Craft Step 6

7

Fold down on each of the score lines to form the card box. Start with the middle by folding in half, then the sides and top.

Place double sided tape or glue on the grey rectangles along the sides.

Treasure Chest Paper Craft Step 7

8

Place the side with writing on top of the double sided tape grey squares.

The sides should be flush with the bottom fold and top tab as shown before pressing down.

Treasure Chest Paper Craft Step 8

9

Use a pen or scoring tool and place inside to press down on the tape or glue to secure along the whole side as shown.

Repeat for the other side.

Treasure Chest Paper Craft Step 9

10

Follow the Playing Card Instructions below to make your own card.

Once the card is complete, you can add a deck of real cards to make searching for one card more fun.

Fold down the top flap to complete the box.

16

Click on the Move tool as shown in the left column. Move the photo down to the heart.

Treasure Chest Paper Craft Step 16

17

Treasure Chest Paper Craft Step 17

18

Treasure Chest Paper Craft Step 18

19

In the drop down box, choose in (for inches) and make sure it shows 4 width x 11 height. Then click the Save button to download the PDF.

This is very important to scale properly with a real playing card.

Treasure Chest Paper Craft Step 19

20

Click on the downloaded PDF file to Open and Print on heavy cardstock paper. Your printer may differ in how that is chosen but it is either in the Properties settings or Finishing.

Again, please make sure Scale is set to 100% so the card will be in real life scale.

Treasure Chest Paper Craft Step 20

21

Score along the blue dotted lines to make the fold.

Treasure Chest Paper Craft Step 21

22

Cut using a craft knife and ruler along the very light line surrounding the card shape. Do NOT cut the card shape yet.  See the next few steps for the reason why.

Treasure Chest Paper Craft Step 22

23

Place double sided tape on the back of one side as shown. Stay very close to the edge so the tape will be along the edges when cut in step 25.

Treasure Chest Paper Craft Step 22

24

Fold along the score line slowly to attach together.

Treasure Chest Paper Craft Step 22

25

Cut along the card line slowly and around the rounded corners. Turn the card into the scissors to make a nice curved cut. You can also use the craft knife and ruler to make the straight cuts along the sides and then the scissor on the rounded corners.

Treasure Chest Paper Craft Step 22

26

Place your card inside the box along with 51 standard playing cards. Ready to surprise the one you love.

You can also place the custom playing card inside a standard deck of cards without the personalized box for more of a surprise.
